For years Oregonians prided themselves of having one of the most open, transparent governments in the entire nation. However, in recent times, state agencies, elected officials, and local governments have made blatant attempts to suvert Oregon’s tradition of open and transparent government. Common Sense For Oregon will not stand idly by and allow Oregon government to be hidden from the citizens.

Common Sense For Oregon supports law making public records readily available to the public. To that end Common Sense For Oregon will support:

• Legislation that will remove many of the exemptions currently contained in public records law;
• Legislation that will make public records available on the internet;
• Legislation that simplifies Oregon’s budget process, and provides line item information to the public about how their tax dollars are being spent;
• Legislation that makes it clear that State of Oregon publications are not subject to copyright and are readily available or used freely by the public;

Common Sense For Oregon remains committed to ensuring that Oregon government remain open and transparent, regardless which party controls state government.
